Our hearts are deeply saddened by the passing of Al Futcher. He was such a kind, gentle soul with the warmest disposition. He always made you feel like his home was your home and had such an endearing way with people. I remember wonderful memories of Al and his loving wife Kate at the farm, hosting family events with such warmth and hospitality. I also remember how much he loved visiting our family cottage at Six Mile Lake. He loved being on the water, hearing the sounds of the loons and relaxing and socializing with family. We will miss him dearly and will always keep him close to our hearts. Our condolences and prayers go out to Robin, Brent, Kristen, Ryan and the entire family. May God surround you with his unconditional love and bring you peace.

Al was a special cousin to me. My memories go back 67-68 years and the summers that I spent with Uncle Bob and Aunt Dorothy on the farm. It was a big deal for a city kid of 7-8. My uncle and aunt were always so kind and understanding. I was still wetting my bed but Aunt Dorothy never complained, and always asking questions that made Uncle Bob laugh. I remember breakfast in the kitchen on the bench after morning chores. Al was typically a little late to rise after a night out but when he did he rose to the occasion. I cherish these memories of my childhood; the threshing up and down the road; the W4 running the thresher; the Tuffords/Lyles/Curtis'; their Ford and Allis Chalmer tractors; the big meals at the threshing lunches with the neighbours gathered together; Uncle Bob in the haymow with the fork lifting hay form the wagon; my stark fear of Billy the ram at the other place; Uncle Bob's 30 something team spending their final days in a more leisurely way; Al and I riding the Super C up the road to the other place, with me standing on the hitch, arms around his waist; so many fond memories. I've owned a Super C for over 30 years and every time I ride it these memories flash back. You are loved cousin Al. Rest in peace. Hugs from your cousin Ted Horton

To Robin and the Futcher family
May you take comfort in the words that have been written from those who knew your dad. As many have shared, Al was truly a kind human being always jovial and willing to share a lending hand. We have fond memories of Al relaxing at our cottage, enjoying the surroundings & the sound of the loons. On special occasions, when gatherings at the farmhouse brought our families together, there was never more welcoming hosts than Al & Kate.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. We will miss him.

We have fond memories of visiting the Futcher farm and always being welcomed like family by both Al and Kate. Al was such a kind man, and a true gentleman. I know he loved to hear the loons whenever he visited our Garell family cottage. I will always be reminded of Al from now on when I hear them call out on the bay in the evening. Our hearts and sympathies go out to the entire family.

There are nothing but the greatest of memories for me and the entire Horton side of the family. Trips to the Futcher farm are embedded in my memory. Collecting the eggs, trying to help with milking, not being entirely sure about the squeezing pigs, and just walking into the garage at the farm with all the swallows and sparrows flying in and out are part of this. Then there was Al's car parked in the garage and all the farm equipment to learn about and ride on. Although 17 years my senior, cousin Al was always wanting to teach me something and had an influence on my becoming a Veterinarian. I will miss his smile and was also proud to have played basketball for Guelph as Al did. Love to the Futcher family.

So many fond memories of visits to Al and Kate's farm! Being fondly welcomed as a crazy bunch of Robin's university friends from McKay Hall, having Al coach my beginner golf game with well timed tips, and my children's delight at visiting the "nice people with the pool and the caboose." Heartfelt condolences to Robin, Anne, Robie and all of the grandchildren. We have lost a wonderful soul, but these scores of memories will long live on in the hearts of many.

Lion Al always greeted me with a smile and a hug and I always was happy to accept and give back those hugs. During my years in Lions, I had the pleasure of having Lion Al escort me in to a dinner at Convention. Not sure who was happier me or Lion Al. He was a huge supporter and advocate for donation to Diabetes. I will miss him, sending my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. PDG Lion Ev Spiering.
