My condolences to the family of Jim. He was a wonderful person, so caring and kind. We worked together for many years at the Christmas Shoppe. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. Debbie Scott

A good man gone—-a family and community man, friend of youth and all who met him. Jim was the volunteer who never stopped giving and he always did it with a smile. We are all poorer for his passing. We are all enriched by sharing our time with him in Port Stanley. It is unfortunate that we cannot pay our respects in the traditional manner but in the days and years ahead, we will always remember him. Farewell Jim. RIP.

Sad news. I have great memories of Jim, having been friends with Doug and playing on the same baseball and hockey teams. I remember packing the whole baseball team into the back of his pickup truck and heading off to Union or Shedden or Fingal, something you would surely be arrested for today. Sometimes it was hard to tell if he was yelling at you but no, it was his passion for the event at the time and his desire to see you succeed at whatever it was you were doing, whether it be sports or a bottle drive. The village of Port Stanley and a lot of generations of its families owe a great deal of thanks for the countless hours Jim put into making sure things happened and happened in a manner that, if you were involved you got equal chance to participate and he left nobody out of the fun. Best wishes to the kids and may he rest in much deserved peace.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I know my Dad was proud to be an Optimist Club member with him. They were friends and always willing to help each other whenever it was needed. I remember Jim and Mel Hyde coming to bring us home from Walsingham when the water pump went on Dad's car. Jim just came along for the ride! Like I said, always willing to help a friend in need. And I will say this, when Jim worked for the PUC, the roads in Port Stanley during the winter were always ready for those that needed to go to work at 7 am, because Jim and his crew were out there before that clearing them!

I had the pleasure of working with Jim as part of the South Elgin Minor Ball League. He was dedicated to making sure kids had a chance to participate and made sure everyone had fun. And he would always ensure that there were treats for the kids to enjoy at the year end wrap up. He was involved in so many things and always giving of his time, with a smile. That we will miss.

There isn’t enough room to share all the wonderful thoughtful things he has done for me and my children we will be lost without him. He was an amazing grandfather to all of them. He has always been the man to help anyone anywhere anytime. And whenever he had the chance he said “hey take a picture” the last while he would say “let’s get a selfie” I know he’s dancing or in a parade or helping someone in heaven with Mom. Miss you Dad xo
