GILBERT, William James “Bill”, of Belmont, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Eileen (née Helka) Gilbert. Dearly loved father of Stephanie Farrow (Ken) of Belmont, Susan Bond (Jason) of Chatham, Stacie Perkins (Ben) of London, and Sarah McLeod (Jamie) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Devon, Dustin and Darah Farrow, Callie, Larissa and Elliot Bond, Gillian Perkins, Raylee and Makayla McLeod. Dear brother of Susan O’Brien (Jerry) of St. Thomas. Loving brother-in-law of Jean Proud (Jan) of Belmont. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by an infant daughter, Allison (1975). Born in St. Thomas, ON, March 19, 1947, he was the son of the late James “Jim” and Barbara (née Johns) Gilbert. Bill was a retired high school teacher, having taught throughout the London area. He was a longtime member at Rowntree and Colborne Churches, and more recently Belmont United Church. Relatives and friends will be received by the family at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Monday, July 2nd from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Hincks St., St. Thomas on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Private interment in St. Thomas Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation – Rheumatology Foundation (519-646-6085), The Lung Association, Belmont United Church or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
