Obituary of Sylvia A. Van Velzer (nee Walker)

Of London, ON, formerly of RR5, St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at her residence, on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in her 86th year.  Beloved wife of the late Ronald G. Van Velzer (1995). Dearly loved mother of Michael Van Velzer (Katarina), Cathy Saumure (Raymond), Scott Van Velzer (Angela), Steven Van Velzer (Andrea), and Doug Van Velzer (Brescia). Cherished grandmother of Taylor, Dax, Romy, Sianna, Colin, Sadie, Josie, Zack, Allegra, Sarah, and Luke. Dear sister of Robert Walker (late Elizabeth), Kenneth Walker, Janet Dilling (Larry), late Joan Walker, and James Walker (late Caren).

Born in St. Thomas, ON, February 2, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Audrey (née Howlett) Walker. A retired teacher, Sylvia taught at many elementary schools throughout Elgin County.

Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). The funeral service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in Elmdale Memorial Park.
