I will always remember my first babysitter with great fondness. From that first encounter in 1954 at barely 2 weeks old, until my recent visit in October 2017 when I was home from the west coast, I enjoyed Eileene’s lively company.
Always with her hands busy involved in some project or other, she shared her joy of nature with me through handcrafted ladybugs and butterfly place mats. She shared a deep love and respect for her husband Bill with my dad, a kindred spirit to Bill since their earliest years.
Over the recent years, it was my privilege to arrange annual visits to her for my dad. We shared yummy Swiss Chalet takeout lunches and homemade bread with butter and jam over the only caffeinated tea I ever drank each year! I delighted hearing the reminiscing conversations she and my dad had and learned a lot about their joys, connections and common acquaintances and history.
My heartfelt sympathy extends to all who have so kindly and selflessly cared for and/or stayed in contact with Eileene over the years; friends, family, neighbours. Her presence in my life will be deeply missed which I suspect is true for many of you also.
Warmly,
Kathryn Yeoell, Vashon WA - (nee Kathy Miller, London ON)
