Obituary of G. Muriel Grant (nee Johnstone)

Grant, Gladys Muriel (née Johnstone)

May 8, 1924 – March 9, 2023

Of Talbotville, formerly of Ottawa, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in her 99th year.  She is survived by her only daughter, Janice Lynne Grant of Talbotville, and her three sons, Gordon and Marshall Grant, both of Alberta, and Barry Grant of Westport, Ontario.  Her husband, Robert Stewart “Bob” Grant had predeceased her by 14 years, passing away on March 21, 2009, in Ottawa.

Muriel (she hated her first name) had come over from England as a war bride and spent many happy years with Bob raising a family, building a lovely cottage near Algonquin Park, and cruising in their retirement years.

Although she had spent only six years in southwestern Ontario, she loved the climate and was the first to admit that she should have moved down here sooner.  All who knew her in St. Thomas recollected her smile as her most memorable feature.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a gathering will be held at the Scattering Garden at the Old St. Thomas Churchyard, as well as in Ottawa, in May.

Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
