Obituary of Olga "Ollie" Perry (nee Yurkiw)

Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in her 96th year. Beloved wife for almost 55 years to the late James A. “Jim” Perry (2006). Mother of Doug Perry (Linda), Kim Perry, Gary Perry (Karen), Karl Perry (Terri), late Karen Graham, and late Ron Perry. Grandmother of Adam Perry, Heather Perry, late Kris Graham, Sharon Graham, Kathryn Graham, Nicole Perry, and Jenny-Ann Wilkinson. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” and Judy, and her nieces, nephews, and their families. Ollie was predeceased by many siblings.

 

Born November 30, 1926, in Garson Quarry, Manitoba, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Ksena (née Novakoski) Yurkiw. Ollie retired in 1983 as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Thomas, a former volunteer at Caressant Care on Bonnie Place, and loved playing euchre.

In keeping with Ollie’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family for a memorial visitation at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, November 18th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A private family memorial service will be held at the funeral home, followed by interment in McArthur Cemetery, Southwold Twp. (The family strongly encourages the wearing of a mask at the visitation and service.) Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. Andrew’s United Church (re: Growing Youth Program) will be gratefully acknowledged.
