Arrangements

In keeping with Carmen’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family for a memorial visitation at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas on Monday, June 20th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. All in attendance are kindly asked to wear a mask. The family will hold a private burial service at a later date.

Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Gordon J. Wood (2004). Dearly loved mother of Gordon G. Wood (Jennifer) of Saint John, NB and Alanna M. MacEachern (Mark) of Central Elgin, ON. Loving and proud grandmother of Amelia and William. Dear sister of Mary Anne Vigars (John) of St. Thomas, ON, George Wright (Nancy) of Woodstock, ON, Mark Wright of London, ON, and Mike Wright (Patricia) of Marietta, GA, USA. Also remembered by her cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families. Carmen was born in Sliema, Malta on February 12, 1941. She was a daughter of the late Eva (née Muscat) and George Wright, who immigrated to Canada in 1950.

Carmen trained as a registered nurse and was a member of the Royal Victorian Order of Nurses. She ended up specializing in psychiatric medicine and worked as a nurse for over 40 years, primarily at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital and later as a community crisis counselor and as a home care nurse.
