Obituary of Arthur B. "Art" McCandless

Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in his 76^th year.  Beloved husband of Lynn (née Marshman) McCandless. Dearly loved father of Kelly McCandless (Toni), Shaun McCandless (Kristy), and Carla Lancaster. Cherished grandfather of Jordan, Shelden, Caleb, Josiah, Aleiah, Aubrey, Nolan, Alexa, Crystal, and Cole. Dear brother of Edythe Hudson, and John.  Also fondly remembered by step-son, Todd Growse (Nicole), many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by sister, Shirley Evans, and brothers, Murray and Lyle.

Born in Strathroy, ON, May 6, 1946, he was a son of the late Sheldon and Irene (née Reid) McCandless. Art enjoyed his long career in electrical sales. He was a valued member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas where he served on the Kirk Session and as Chair of the Board of Managers. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, St. Thomas, a long-time Lions Club member, volunteered for Victim Services and VON. Art formerly sat on council as an Alderman for the City of Leduc, AB.

In keeping with Art’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  Private interment of his cremated remains will be made in Strathroy Cemetery.  A service to celebrate Art’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas at a future time.  Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
