Obituary of Tena Heslinga (nee Karsten)
Of Caressant Care on Bonnie Place, St. Thomas, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, in her 97th year. Beloved wife for almost 70 years to the late Andrew “Andy” Heslinga (2015). Dearly loved mother of Rev. Fred Heslinga, Donald Heslinga (Gail), and Jack Heslinga. Also fondly remembered by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to her husband, Tena was predeceased by her daughter, Jo-Ann Burrows, daughter-in-law, Ella Heslinga, a sister, and a brother. Born in 1925, in Pingjum, Province of Friesland, The Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Douwe and Siewke (née Roedema) Karsten. Tena came to Canada from The Netherlands in 1952. She was a member of The Junction Church, St. Thomas (formerly known as First Christian Reformed Church), where she was a former member of the Ladies Society and the Seniors Club.
By invitation, a private visitation followed by a private funeral service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). Due to Provincial COVID-19 restrictions, attendance numbers will be restricted, physical distancing will be followed, and a properly worn mask or face covering is required. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park.
