Obituary of Jane A. Gooding (nee Jackson)
GOODING, Jane A. “Jean” (née Jackson), of St. Thomas, passed away at the Valleyview Home on Friday, December 1, 2017, in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late Ralph M. “Dick” Gooding (2012). Dearly loved mother of Eva Hurst (Al), and Ralph Gooding (Manda), all of St. Thomas. Grandmother of Becky (Allan), Katie (Jordan), Andy (Kate), Lisa (Scott), Eva (David), and Brian (Tiffany). Great grandmother of Fiona, Brooke, Blake, Olivia, Luke, Jackson, Liam, Nora, and Sophia. Sister of Marion Whittaker (late Ken) of New Brunswick, David Jackson (late Evelyn) of Sarnia, Chris Jackson, Jan Wotypka (late Mike), Tom Jackson (Linda), all of St. Thomas, late John Jackson (Bertha of New Brunswick), and the late Beatrice Ferris (late George). Also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Born in McDonald’s Point, New Brunswick, January 25, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (née White) Jackson. Jean came to the St. Thomas area from New Brunswick in 1961. For a number of years, she assisted her husband on the farm at R.R.8, St. Thomas. Jean was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the PWA. She was also a member of the Yarmouth Glen Women’s Institute, and a former longtime volunteer at the Elgin County Pioneer Museum. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church, 44936 Ferguson Line, Central Elgin (corner of Ferguson Line and Yarmouth Centre Road) on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment in the columbarium at South Park Cemetery, St. Thomas. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or St. James Presbyterian Church will be gratefully acknowledged.
