van der Veen, Sandra (née Evans), RN - Of St. Thomas, ON, age 73, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, with her family and friends by her side.  She is fondly remembered by her former husband, Jan “John” van der Veen.  Dearly loved mother of Frank van der Veen (Rachale), Jon van der Veen, and Blake van der Veen.  Sandra was proud of her granddaughters, Sloane and Aubrey van der Veen.  Dear sister of Evelyn Lasas, Ava Oleson (Eric), Leslie Pashuk (Kevin), Lorna Nahwegahbow, and James Evans (Sylvie).  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.  Predeceased by her parents, Maureen (née Campbell) Evans and Harold Evans, and brother, Ted Evans.  Sandra was born in Vernon, BC, September 15, 1947.  A Registered Nurse, she graduated from Nursing College in Winnipeg, MB in 1966, and completed her Nursing Degree at the University of Ottawa.  Sandra enjoyed a long career in nursing and health care in Ottawa and in Southwestern Ontario.  During the mid 1990’s, Sandra served as an elected council member for the Township of Southwold.  She was a valued member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas where she served on the Kirk Session.  In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe for all to gather.  Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church will be gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A service to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe for all to gather.
