Obituary of Robert G. Wilcox

WILCOX, Robert G. “Bob”, formerly of Aylmer and R.R.3, St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at the Valleyview Home, St. Thomas on Monday, September 4, 2017, in his 96th year.  Beloved and devoted husband for 71 years to the late Helen (née Begg) Wilcox (July 5, 2017).  Dearly loved father of Barbara Ann Smith (Vincent) of Sherwood Park, AB, and Mary Margaret Wilcox Bovaird (Timothy) of Toronto.  Cherished grandfather of Robert Smith (Rhiannon) of Calgary, AB, Catherine Garcia (Rolando) of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Jennifer Wilcox Bovaird Taylor (Andrew), and Kathryn Birks Bovaird Kerr (Shawn), all of Toronto.  He was proud of his great grandchildren, Sophia, Kaidence, Averi, Grayson, Emerson, Sienna, Lilian, Elizabeth, and our angel Nicholas.  Born in Yarmouth Township, ON, June 26, 1922, he was the son of the late Clair and Ida (née Hamilton) Wilcox.  Bob was a retired Yarmouth Township farmer.  He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas, and a Past President of the Aylmer Curling Club where he won numerous championships and scored the elusive “eight ender.”  Bob was an avid golfer at the Pleasant Valley Golf & Country Club where he played constantly with a wonderful group of friends and family until his 90th birthday.  He and Helen travelled extensively in their retirement to all parts of the world.  Bob was a wonderful and keen bridge player well into his 90's. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or funeral service.  A private family graveside service will be held at Orwell Cemetery.  Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
