Obituary of Elizabeth D. "Betty" Hagerty

Of St. Thomas, formerly of Dutton, passed away at Caressant Care on Mary Bucke on Friday, January 12, 2024, in her 73rd year.  Sister of Donald Hagerty (Lillian) and the late Wilfred Hagerty (1985). Aunt of Patrick Hagerty (Lisa) and Joyelle Hagerty.  Betty will share a happy reunion with her beloved late dog, Buddy (2020). She will be missed and fondly remembered by her cousins and close friends as well.

 

Born in St. Thomas, ON, October 17, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Grace (née Haldane) Hagerty. She was raised on the family farm in Fingal, ON where she began her love of animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses. Betty was a retired nurses assistant at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital, where she worked for 35 years.  She formerly enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. Betty was a frequent spectator at local minor ball and hockey tournaments and was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan.

 

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held in the Karn Room at the Masonic Centre of Elgin, 42703 Fruit Ridge Line, St. Thomas on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.  Private interment in Fingal Cemetery will take place in the spring.
