MURPHY, Velma A. (née Barber), of St. Thomas, passed away at her residence, the Valleyview Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, in her 97th year.  Beloved wife of the late C. William “Bill” Murphy (2005).  Dearly loved mother of Larry Murphy (Wendy Dwyer) of Union, and Linda Simmons (Grant) of St. Thomas.  Cherished grandmother of Darryl Murphy (Catherine), Brian Murphy (Samantha), Mike Murphy (Stephanie), Craig Simmons (Aggie Young), and Scott Prezeau (Amanda).  Dear sister of Gerald Barber (Betty), Gladys Mott, late Melvin Barber, late Hazel Ayres, late Bertha Hunter, and the late Max Barber.  Also survived by several great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Born in Windham Centre, ON, November 9, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mae (née Maitland) Barber. Velma was a retired real estate agent.  She was a member of New Vision Community Church, St. Thomas, and a devoted member of the former Grace United Church.  Velma was a former avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening.  The funeral service to celebrate Velma’s life will be held at New Vision Community Church, 38 Aldborough Ave., St. Thomas on Monday, June 4th at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service.  Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the CNIB will be gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
