Obituary of Janice Lester (nee Hill)

Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, July 3, 2026, in her 83^rd year. 

Beloved wife for 65 years to Donald W.E. “Don” Lester. Dearly loved mother of Melinda “Mindy” Deziel, Mike (Kathy), Jeff (Lorrie), and Julie. She was proud of her grandchildren, David, Denise (Craig), late Diana, Brittany, Gavyn, Jeff “JJ” (Erin), and Rachelle (Justin), and her great grandchildren, Jaden, Ryan, Logan, Lachlan, Avery and Lilah. Janice is also remembered by her sisters, Lois and Marion, in-laws, Sandra and Lloyd, and by her nieces, nephews, and their families. 

Born in Woodstock, ON, September 1, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Victor John “Mike” and Dorothy Jean (née Moon) Hill. Janice formerly worked at Raven’s Shoe Store, St. Thomas and ParaMed. She loved to fish from the pontoon boat, and she and Don enjoyed their winter home in Florida for many years, spending time with family and friends.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. (Visitation prior from 12:30 – 1:20 p.m.).  If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada.
