Obituary of Mary Smith (nee Howard)
Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, on Friday, May 15, 2026, in her 93rd year.
Cherished grandmother of Christopher Bourenoff, Shannon Cowan (Jason), Charlene Kilgour (Brian), Serena Northcott (Jim), Jody Walters, Mandee Walters (Jason), and Dawn Shaw (Steve). Loving great grandmother of Charmayne (Mason), Carter, Darryn, Maxine, Abbey, Tristan, Oceanna, Kourtnee, Jazmine, Jacob, Kylie, Emma, Cameron and Logan. Proud great great grandmother of Ahlyson-Rose and Renesmee. Dear sister of Laura Carleton. Also survived many nieces, nephews, and their families. Mary was predeceased by her daughters; Sandra Dennis (2020), and Donna Walters (2012), great granddaughter, Serena, sisters; Lillian Lewis and Elsie Black, and former husband, B. John Smith.
Born in Saskatchewan, December 11, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Harry Howard and Vera (née Skraba) Bourenoff. Mary was a former employee of Weetabix, Cobourg. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. If desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
