Obituary of Dina Demeester (nee Dejonghe)

Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in her 99th year.

Beloved wife of the late Valere Demeester (1999). Dearly loved mother of John, Dennis (Linne), George (Julie), and the late Roland “Roly” (Cindy). Dina was proud of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild. Dear sister of Agnes Dejonghe and the late Albert Dejonghe. Dear sister-in-law of Godelieve Dejonghe, Robert Demeester, and Elaine Lazou. Also fondly remembered by Laura Demeester and Nora Demeester, and her nieces, nephews, and their families.

Born in Menin, Province of West Flanders, Belgium, May 25, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Martha (née Vandamme) Dejonghe. Dina immigrated to Canada from Belgium in 1952 and came to St. Thomas in 1953. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Visitors will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 9946 Talbotville Gore Rd. (at Sunset Rd.), St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Private interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the charity of your choice.
