Obituary of William R. "Bill" Stone

Formerly of St. Thomas, ON, passed away at Terrace Lodge, Aylmer on Monday, March 9, 2026, in his 92^nd year. 

Beloved husband of the late Thelma (née Plumb) Stone (Jan. 13, 2019). Dearly loved father of Beverley Scott (Steven), Matthew Stone, David Stone (Patricia), Christine O’Connor (Michael), Stephen Stone (Cheri), and Jacqueline Stone-Wiebe (Frank). He was proud of his 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also remembered by his nieces, nephews, and their families. Bill’s sister, Emily South, predeceased him.

Born in Enfield, Middlesex, England, November 6, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Emily (née Geeves) Stone. Bill arrived in Canada with his wife Thelma on May 18, 1957 as a steam fitter welder and retired as a quality control engineer at Clark/VME, St. Thomas. He was a life member of St. Thomas United Lodge #44, A.F. & A.M. and St. David’s Lodge #302, A.F. & A.M. For many years, Bill enjoyed hunting (especially for moose), fishing, and flying as a licensed private pilot out of the St. Thomas Municipal Airport.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to the awesome staff in the Chestnut Wing of Terrace Lodge.  They took great care of our father with such kindness for the past two years.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to a local charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
