Obituary of Eleanor Joyce Lyle (nee Hutchison)

Eleanor passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at the age of 96.

Reunited with her husband, Bruce A. Lyle (2003). Loving mother of Nancy Chambers (Jim), Paula Seggewiss (George), and Brian Lyle (Kathy). Eleanor took great joy in being the grandmother of Laura (Nick), Martin (Julie), Krista (Gavin), Graham (Jessica), Deren, and Kara (Joshua), and great-grandmother to Alexis, Oliver, Arthur, Caleb, Aubrey, Cohen, Maren, Judd, Maxim, Shea, Brett, Colin, Mark, and Brian. Dear sister-in-law of Donna Lyle. Also fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and their families, and her friends.

In addition to her husband, Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, William and Elsie (née Griffiths) Hutchison, her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Dr. Don Catton, brother-in-law, Hugh Lyle, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Louise and Lyle Sifton.

Eleanor attended St. Thomas schools and London Normal School. She became a well-respected educator with the former Elgin County Board of Education, finishing her teaching career at Southwold Public School.  Eleanor was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas, the St. Thomas Curling Club, and the Middlemarch Women’s Institute. She was a former 4-H homemaking club leader, YWCA board member, and Elgin County Museum volunteer. Eleanor’s efforts with the Knox Tartan Bazaar for many years will be forever remembered and appreciated.

In retirement, Eleanor enjoyed travelling, gardening, playing bridge, and being part of many family celebrations and activities. She was a devoted wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma. Birthdays, graduations, weddings and anniversaries were attended and celebrated. Mom loved hearing stories about the grandchildren and lately, the great grandchildren.
