Obituary of Mary Smoke (née Wilcox)

Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away peacefully at Caressant Care on Bonnie Place on Friday, July 25, 2025, in her 97^th year. Beloved wife of the late Verne L. Smoke (2013). Dearly loved mother of Cheryl Doyon (Phil), Darrell Smoke, Susan Smoke (Tim Murphy), late Alison Portlock (late Ed), and the late Kathy Smoke. Dear sister of Donna MacDouell, Rosalie Morrison (late Donald), late Larry Wilcox (Pat), late Brian Wilcox (Jan), and the late Bud Wilcox (late Beryl). Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.

Born in London, ON, April 11, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Verlyn (née Dudney) Wilcox. Mary was a retired nurse’s aide having worked at the Canadian Red Cross, St. Thomas and Elgin Manor. She was associated with First Yarmouth (Plains) Baptist Church, St. Thomas.

Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). The funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in Elmdale Memorial Park.
