Obituary of Antonia M. Plaumann (nee Straub)
Formerly of St. Thomas, ON, passed away peacefully at AgeCare London on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, in her 99th year. Beloved wife for 60 years to the late Heinz B. “Pop” Plaumann (2006). Dearly loved mother of Dieter (Kate), Heinz (Marilyn), Eddie (Sasha), and Annette Scheyen (Peter). Loved son, Bruno, passed away in 1954. Cherished by her 10 grandchildren, Matt, Jenn, Jessica, Melissa, Heidi, Mary-Ellen, Gabrielle, Anja, Nathan and Avery, and her 12 great-grandchildren.
Antonia was born on June 27, 1926, in Horodnic de Sus, Province of Bukovina, Romania, a daughter of the late Ferdinand “Fred” and Anna (née Rotter) Straub. Her sister, Magdalena Straub passed away during WW2. Antonia came to St. Thomas from Germany in 1949 and to London in 2007. She formerly worked as a waitress at Galloway’s and the Rendezvous Restaurant, St. Thomas. She was a member for many years of Holy Angels’ Roman Catholic Church, St. Thomas. Antonia enjoyed cooking meals and baking to bring people together.
A private family visitation and funeral service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, St. Thomas (519-631-1160). Following cremation, interment in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Flowers respectfully declined. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank.
