I was assistant manager for A&P/Metro for several years in St. Thomas, so I had the pleasure to work with Mirka Back for a few years. She was a treasure! Hardworking, capable, got along with everybody, sweet, kind, loving, beautiful smile, the list could go on and on. It was a total pleasure to have met her and worked with her. I was really taken aback to see that she had passed. When you get to my age you start to lose a lot of the old friends and workmates. It's sad but when I think of Mirka only good happy thoughts come to mind, truly. We have lost one of the all time greats. My wife Bette and I send our heartfelt condolences to all of her family and a shout out to all the fellow employees who had the pleasure of working with Mirka, dare I say, in the good old days! I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved Mirka. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time. Losing someone as warm, kind, and generous as she was is truly a great loss, not only to your family but to all who had the privilege of knowing her. I have many fond memories of Mirka, especially her unwavering kindness and generosity. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Her warmth and hospitality were unmatched, and I will always cherish the moments spent in her company. One memory that stands out is when she graciously helped me stitch a skirt. Despite her busy schedule, she always made time to lend a helping hand and share her skills with others. Her patience, guidance, and willingness to assist were a testament to her selflessness and caring nature. I also fondly remember her love for ABBA. Whenever their songs played, her eyes would light up, and she would sing along with such joy and enthusiasm. Mirka's legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched. I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Mirka's passing. Sending my love and healing energy to you all. The obituary, in true Back Family fashion, is amazing in both the parts I didn't know (her name ❤️, early life) and tells the story of her life and commitment to family so perfectly. I can hear her ever hospitible voice and harkens back the warmth and memories of big Christmases, amazing meals, fun, games and family time I remember so well. I'll only add her seemingly constant commitment to hair braiding and her infectious, joyous and knowing smile. Aunt Mirka was a maker - of family, dreams (often requiring costumes), and memories. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I had the opportunity to know Mirka and call her family. She was such a wonderful and unassuming host wherever we visited or attended family weddings. My Mom was so very fond of her and all the Back family. She will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on!

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my friend Mirka Back. We shared many adventures raising our children and skating with the Ice Breakers and the Port Stanley Skating club.
